Time spent watching films, even crappy ones, is time well-spent.

Gandhi (1982)

Great man's life told via way too long and disjointed movie.  It felt like it was filmed directly from a journal -- the kind of journal in which the author obsesses over events that hold little interest for the reader and then puts the book down altogether for huge chunks of time.  I found this a very tedious watch.

The Lego Movie (2014)

Though it took a bit to get going, it turns quickly into a quip-a-minute delight. I think the meta ending rather lets it down a bit with its message of “eh -- you don't really need to obey your parents if you know better,” but hopefully most viewers won’t get hung up on that like I did.

Warm Bodies (2013)

The zombie voice-over was quite funny and the “eating memories” sequences poignant, but the cleverness doesn’t hold up all the way through. The payoff is weak at best and the story just kind of peters out.

Darling (1965)

The story in short: a very pretty model behaves like a spoiled brat cheating with someone's husband then on her husband, then on her boyfriend and then another husband. I’m not sure if I was meant to empathize with her, but my reaction was one of annoyance.

At one point, she refused a proposal from a prince with an explanation that went something like “I can’t possibly leave my life.” Since the life at issue was so unfulfilling and lonely, I can’t imagine why she balked.

Yeesh.
