Critical MeMe
Time spent watching films, even crappy ones, is time well-spent.
- Post dates are when I watched, parenthetical dates are the year of US release (aka Oscar eligibility).

A Free Soul (1931)
Have I ever enjoyed Norma Shearer? I really don't believe I have and this time is no exception. She's a grown-up daughter who constantly refers to her fall-down-drunk lawyer father as "darling" and starts hooking up with one of his mobster clients (Clark Gable) despite being engaged to a rather decent fellow (Leslie Howard).
There's scandal and threats and murder -- only much more boring than all of that sounds.

Fly Away (2011)
A nice woman with a severely autistic teenage daughter struggles to keep her life together while dealing with her daughter's increasingly violent and unpredictable behavior.
I have no idea of whether the girl was doing a good job acting, but I do know that she did a great job of putting me on the side of all of the people telling the mom that keeping her daughter at home was too much and the girl would be better off in a school better equipped to handle and teach her. I'm not going to win any sensitivity awards for that, I bet.

Bridesmaids (2011)
There were lots of funny ideas that seemed to be dropped too quickly and some unfunny ones that were allowed to go on too long. The pacing and editing were just altogether off.
It was a good time -- not bad at all -- but we should've waited until it was out on DVD.
