Sing Street (2016)
Teen is thrown for a loop when his family’s financial situation forces him to transfer from his more expensive school to a rough “Christian Brothers” school. He’s threatened, forced to go shoeless, and propositioned by a priest, but he also sees a pretty girl and decides to start a band to impress her.
It's set in the ‘80s, but it almost feels like it was made in the ‘80s as well, which isn't really a bad thing. It does, however, mean that lots of stuff gets pretty much glossed-over. Instead of being traumatized by the terrors in his new life, he just rolls with it and makes a quick success of his band and gets the girl. The songs were dang good & I enjoyed this -- but it’s about as deep as a kiddie-pool.
